FIAN Calls Upon G8 to Implement Tenure Guidelines

One year after the endorsement of the Guidelines on the Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests, FIAN calls upon the G8 to implement them. The G8 is currently discussing an 'initiative to increase transparency of land transactions and tenure', which could be launched at the upcoming G8 summit in June 2013. FIAN, together with social movements and other civil society organizations from all over the world strongly rejects this initiative, which will not stop land and resource grabbing.
Report reveals hidden truth about land concentration in Europe

A report released today by the Hands off the Land Alliance and the European Coordination of Via Campesina shows that land concentration is not only a problem in the Global South. Within Europe, half of all farmland is controlled by just 3 percent of the landowners. On this International Day of Peasants’ Struggles FIAN and a wide coalition of social movements and civil society organizations call for mobilization to reclaim our food system, which is increasingly being taken over by global capital in the form of land grabs.
Compensation ordered for evictees of coffee plantation Mubende

The High Court in Uganda ordered that compensation of approximately 11 million euros be paid to the more than 2,000 evictees of land now occupied by the Kaweri Coffee Plantation in Mubende. The judge harshly criticized the German investor behind the plantation, Neumann Kaffee Gruppe, for abusing its human rights duty to due diligence.
Views from Burkina Faso on mining and peasants’ rights
